Preparing for VEC registration: the road to 500

What it actually takes to register a political party in Victoria — and how close we are to putting the Democrats back on your ballot.

To contest the 2026 state election as a registered party, we need 500 members on the Victorian electoral roll, a registered officer, a constitution that passes muster, and paperwork lodged well before the deadline.

The constitution is done. The processes are built. The website you’re reading handles memberships end-to-end. What stands between us and the ballot paper is the member count — and that’s a number you can personally change in about sixty seconds.

Enrol to vote if you haven’t, then join the party. When the VEC checks our list against the roll, make sure your name is part of history.
