Peter Kelly is a long-standing Geelong local, independent thinker, and passionate advocate for evidence-based governance. Standing as the Australian Democrats candidate for Western Victoria, Peter is committed to helping restore public trust and confidence in our political institutions.
For too long, politics has been driven by the perpetual election cycle rather than rigorous, well-considered legislation. Peter believes the community deserves better: robust legislative scrutiny, transparent decision-making, and healthy, respectful debate. Genuine scrutiny and transparent debate are essential to stopping costly government waste—such as the massive budget blowouts on major infrastructure projects—and ensuring public funds are managed responsibly. True democracy requires that institutions are carefully guarded and held to high standards, no matter who is in government—a principle the Australian Democrats have a proud history of upholding.
An active outdoor enthusiast, camper, and keen cyclist, Peter understands the unique challenges facing regional communities across Western Victoria. He is dedicated to ensuring regional voices are actively integrated into practical, sustainable solutions. Peter’s approach is grounded in common sense, fairness, and a determination to bring accountability and genuine substance back to Victorian policy-making.
